Twenty Bag | Apr 16
In the Apr 16 Twenty Bag: Lettuce mix, *No Spray* strawberries from Wabi Sabi Farms, Cordesville, broccoli, spring onions/scallions, rainbow carrots, cauliflower, parsley, pointed cabbage
Thank you Harleston Towles and Rooting Down Farms!
I’m so happy to see pointed cabbage back in this week’s Bag. Its tender leaves and delicate flavor make it an ideal candidate for a simple and quick stove-top braise featuring a touch of nutmeg and wine.
The Bag’s fresh head of cabbage shines in another simple prep like sheet pan roasting it with a splash of good olive oil, Kosher salt and freshly ground pepper.
A quick search of sweetgrass + grits will take you to plenty more recipes—all curated with an eye toward the weekly Twenty Bag harvest.
Harleston’s storage tips: If greens or herbs of any kind begin to wilt at any point or at pick up, put them in a big bowl of ice water for 20-30 minutes. Almost all produce is washed and should go in the refrigerator Carrot, beet, and radish tops should be removed upon receiving Bag. If healthy and green, use carrot tops for pesto or juicing. Topped carrots, beets, radish, and other root crops will hold well in a plastic bag in the fridge for months. Parsley, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and spring onions should all be stored in a plastic bag in the fridge. Lettuce mix can stay in it's bag. Strawberries in the fridge.
